Beyonce Invites J. Cole Over For A 'Party' In New Video

Clip, which premiered Wednesday night, also features appearances from Kelly Rowland and Solange Knowles.
By James Dinh

Beyonce in her "Party" music video
Photo: Columbia

Beyoncé is known as one of the industry's hardest-working pop stars — even when she's expecting. A mere week and a half since dropping her boy-band tribute video for "Love on Top," the pop titan has unveiled the visual for her J. Cole remix of "Party" on Wednesday night's (October 26) episode of BET's "106 & Park."

"Party" takes viewers back to an old-school backyard celebration full of colorful bikinis, freestyle dancing and a few familiar faces, including sister Solange Knowles and former Destiny's Child bandmate Kelly Rowland. Throughout the video, B lets loose, playing a sort of party host. If she isn't lounging in beach chairs, she's dancing among her friends or mowing the yawn. Yes, Beyoncé is multitasking!

And it wouldn't be a celebration without an appearance from J. Cole, the guest MC behind the remix of the Kanye West-produced tune. Midway through the video, the Roc Nation signee pulls up to the party with his ride glimmering brightly in the sun and spits his verse in the parking lot.

B fans learned there would be a clip for "Party" back in August, when the mom-to-be was spotted in New Jersey's Oakdale Mobile Home Park. Probably due to her impending motherhood, Queen B shot a slew of videos for cuts from her album, 4, ahead of time. "Party" follows previous clips for "Love on Top," "Countdown," "1+1," "Run the World (Girls)" and "Best Thing I Never Had."

What do you think of Beyoncé's new video? Share your reviews below!

First Firefox 6 build next week, Firefox 7 by May, and aurora channel introduced

Firefox 5, 6, 7 and release channels
Mozilla's Engineering Project Manager, Christian Legnitto, has detailed the release schedule for Firefox 5, 6 and 7. If all goes to plan, Firefox 6.0a1 will be released next week, April 12, and Firefox 7.0a1 in the middle of May. The final build of Firefox 5 should be released on June 21, exactly three months after the release of Firefox 4.

Along with the faster 6-week release cadence, Firefox's new Chrome-like release channels have also been given names and anticipated update frequencies. The most notable change is the introduction of a new alpha channel -- which is analogous to Chrome Canary -- that will be called 'aurora' and will update nightly. Aurora will be where fixes and features are tested, and either approved for Beta, or backed out to Central. Aurora will have a new icon, too.

The Nightly (mozilla-central) channel will remain unchanged in name and frequency, but it will gain a new 'nightly icon.' The Beta (mozilla-beta) channel will remain as-is, with new builds rolling out weekly. The Release (mozilla-release) channel will also remain as-is, with security and stability updates coming every 6 to 12 weeks.

It should be noted that the names (including 'aurora') are not necessarily final, but it's unlikely that they'll change. We're also awaiting the arrival of the new 'channel switching' technology, which should arrive in the next few days -- in time for the release of Firefox 6 aurora!

Second Day Of Valencia Moto2 Test A Washout: No Times, But Some Intrigue And Gossip

After a first day of useful testing for the Moto2 class at Valencia, the second day was a complete washout. The day started off wet, the rain getting heavier as the day progressed, severely limiting action on track. Just a handful of riders braved the conditions, including Alessandro Andreozzi, Scott Redding and Johann Zarco. Later in the afternoon, Toni Elias followed suit, the Spaniard taking one of the Aspar Suter's out for a spin as he closed on a deal with the team for 2012. Aspar already has Aleix Espargaro and Nico Terol signed, but Espargaro looks like being promoted to ride a CRT Aprilia in MotoGP for the team, making way for Elias to take the Moto2 ride. Contracts are expected to be signed in the next couple of days.

Weidman, Tibau preliminary card winners at UFC 139

Weidman, Tibau preliminary card winners at UFC 139

Chris Weidman and Gleison Tibau rounded out the Facebook fights at UFC 139 in San Jose on Saturday with wins.

Weidman chokes his way to a win

Chris Weidman needed just 2:07 to get a technical submission win over Tom Lawlor.

Weidman relied on his wrestling early, getting a takedown in the first minute of the fight. He maneuvered into a D'arce. Lawlor didn't tap when he was in trouble, so the fight was stopped when Lawlor was unconscious.

Weidman, an All-American wrestler at Hofstra, continued his undefeated streak with the win. Lawlor fell to 7-4.

Tibau takes battle of grapplers

Gleison Tibau continued his undefeated streak in 2011 with a decision win over Rafael dos Anjos.

The first round gave dos Anjos a marked advantage on the ground, but Tibau had better striking in a tightly contested round. The majority of the second round was stand-up, despite the strong grappling backgrounds of both fighters. Again, the round was tight, as each fighter answered the other's punching combos. Late in the round, Tinau took the lead with a left-right combo, and then an unending bevy of unanswered shots. Somehow, dos Anjos stayed on his feet despite being very wobbly from Tibau's big punches.

Tibau notched a takedown in the third round and controlled dos Anjos for most of the round. That takedown represented the majority of any offense in the round. Dos Anjos returned to his feet and swung wildly in the last remaining minute, but it was too late.

The judges saw the fight 29-28, 28-29, 30-27 for Tibau. This win was his third in a row and puts his record to 25-7. Dos Anjos fell to 15-6.

Lady Gaga Gets Crafty In Thanksgiving Special Preview

'A Very Gaga Thanksgiving,' airing Thursday on ABC, will feature a performance of 'Marry the Night.'
By James Dinh

Lady Gaga in ABC's "A Very Gaga Thanksgiving"
Photo: ABC

Gather 'round, Little Monsters! Lady Gaga is serving up something special during a preview for her very-first 90-minute holiday TV special, "A Very Gaga Thanksgiving," which will air at 9:30 p.m. ET Thursday on ABC.

"So excited for everyone to see the Thanksgiving Special I directed!" the pop star wrote on Twitter alongside a link to a preview. "Getting into the holiday spirit!"

In a three-minute teaser, Mother Monster gathers with a crowd of third-grade children from her former elementary school to make some festive crafts and share personal holiday-food traditions. "I want everyone to go around the room and say one thing that their family makes for Thanksgiving," she tells the swarm of girls. Gaga is met with a number of answers, including turkey, ham and pumpkin pie, and one girl's choice leads Gaga to reveal one of her favorite Thanksgiving foods: "I love cranberry sauce. My mom makes the best cranberry sauce ever!" she tells the student. It's just some simple chit-chat as they create Thanksgiving crafts and later help the pop superstar tie her apron.

In addition to the festive footage, Gaga also takes to an intimate stage to perform "Bad Romance" and, later on, to an outside balcony for her latest single, "Marry the Night." Dressed in a shoulder-less black dress with matching hand gloves, the songstress channels her inner Audrey Hepburn as she offers fans some dramatic poses during the number.

Can't get enough of Gaga's holiday tunes? The singer just released a four-track digital EP called A Very Gaga Holiday on iTunes, which includes "White Christmas," "Orange Colored Sky," "Yoü & I" and "The Edge of Glory."

Will you be watching "A Very Gaga Thanksgiving"? Let us know in the comments!

Britney Spears: Trying to "Master Love"

Even with a jam-packed, non-stop schedule, Britney Spears still manages to find the time to sit down and fit in a good book every now and then.

While chatting with UK?s Stylist magazine, the ?Circus? star revealed that she?s been reading The Mastery of Love, which was written a decade ago by Mexican spiritualist author Don Miguel Ruiz.

"It's basically an analysis of love and what it means to love," Spears explained. "It goes through all the different aspects of love ? who you are as a person, knowing yourself before you even attempt to love anyone else, that sort of thing. It's really well-written and thought-provoking."

When asked if she would recommend the book to anyone in a relationship, Brit said, "Yes definitely, it's very cool. It's not so much about learning something; it's one of those things where you already know this stuff, but it's good to instill it in yourself again."

Windows 8 now available to OEMs via Microsoft Connect

windows 8Select Microsoft Connect partners -- major players like HP -- have been given their first taste of Windows 8. According to various sources, the build string currently sits at 7971.0.110324-1900, which is the third milestone build of the successor to Windows 7.

So far, there haven't been many details revealed about Windows 8. An actual System Restore -- which is being referred to as History Vault -- has been reported, and the feature will allow users and administrators to completely roll back a system to a previous state. A factory reset option is also said to be included.

We've also seen Windows Live integration taking shape on the desktop. It's believed that you'll be able to log in to Windows 8 using your Windows Live credentials, not just a traditional offline Windows username and password.

All that's left now is for a leaked Windows 8 build to show up on a torrent site. Feel free to tip us if you see that happen.

Local Governments File Suits Against MERS

In the mid-'90s, the big banks set up the Mortgage Electronic Registration System, or MERS, to track mortgages as they're traded by investors in mortgage-backed securities. It's a system set up to let banks skip the process of paying recurring filing fees at county courthouses each time a mortgage was bought or sold. Now, many cash-strapped local governments, big and small, are filing lawsuits against MERS. Politicians contend their communities are owed millions of dollars.

Conrad Murray Verdict: Nicki Minaj, More Celebs React

Ryan Seacrest, MJ producer Darkchild and other stars also weigh in.
By James Dinh

Just like Michael Jackson's legions of die-hard fans, stars are also sounding off about the guilty verdict for former Jackson doctor Conrad Murray.

Shortly after the announcement Monday afternoon (November 7), the blogosphere was flooded with celebrity opinions, from Nicki Minaj, Ryan Seacrest, sister LaToya Jackson and more.

"People are cheering but there really are no winners here," Minaj tweeted. "This has been an utter tragedy from beginning to end. #RIPMichaelJackson."

Seacrest questioned how much time Murray will actually serve behind bars, writing, "Big question is will conrad murray serve time? Judge has 20 days to sentence him, and can give him up to 4 years in prison."

MJ producer and collaborator Darkchild was content with the news, tweeting,"#GUILTY Justice has been served but we still lost a great man, great father, greatest entertainer, and a great friend of mine! R.I.P MJ."

"VICTORY!!!!!! Michael I love you and I will continue to fight until ALL are brought to justice! Thank you EVERYONE for your love and support! It will ALWAYS be appreciated!" sister Latoya Jackson wrote on her Twitter, with the entire family also releasing a joint statement.

Piers Morgan described Murray's behavior as "unethical for a doctor." "#ConradMurray didn't deliberately kill #MichaelJackson, but his negligent actions allowed the death to occur," he wrote on Twitter.

Tyrese sent his wishes to the Jackson family, hoping they found closure in the ruling. "MICHAEL JACKSON YOU WILL FOREVER BE MISSED BUT NEVER FORGOTTEN... REST IN HEAVEN!! REST IN HEAVEN!! I hope the family has closure!! RIH!" he tweeted.

While some celebs, like ?uestlove of the Roots, had mixed feelings about the verdict ("Guilty. now what?" he wrote), Bravo star Patti Stanger rejoiced in the news: "The karma kat got Conrad Murray...guilty! Greed is never worth a person's life. X0," she tweeted.

MTV News will be covering the Conrad Murray case live. Go to MTVNews.com for breaking news, reactions and analysis from Los Angeles or tune to MTV for the latest updates.

Conrad Murray's Lawyers Planning Appeal

Michael Jackson doctor convicted of involuntary manslaughter on Monday.
By Gil Kaufman

Photo: Al Seib/Pool/Getty Images

The lawyers for Conrad Murray are planning to lodge an appeal on behalf of Michael Jackson's former doctor.

Murray, who was immediately sent to jail on Monday following his conviction on a single felony charge, is being housed in a part of the Los Angeles County jail set aside for high-profile prisoners. According to CNN, Murray's defense team has promised to appeal the conviction, but not before they prepare for his upcoming sentencing hearing on November 29. Defense attorney Nareg Gourjian said that Murray was "devastated" by the guilty verdict, but he is "confident" that he will win release on appeal.

"What matters most right now is trying to keep Dr. Murray from taking up a prison cell in this community," lead defense lawyer Ed Chernoff said. "That's what we're focusing on right now and we'll deal with an appeal after that."

Though Murray is facing up to four years in state prison on the charge, because of recent changes in sentencing laws in California aimed at reducing prison overcrowding, he is unlikely to spend any time in a state facility. His lawyers plan to ask for probation and Gourjian said he expects his client to spend "maybe a little bit" of time in county jail.

Both lawyers said they were not surprised by the verdict but that their case was hampered by some of the pre-trial rulings that were made on evidence the defense had planned to show the jury. "I think that's essentially what denied Dr. Murray a fair trial in this case," Gourjian said. He suggested that the outcome may have been different if Murray's team had been able to introduce evidence on Jackson's past drug use and dire "financial condition."

The verdict is in on the Conrad Murray trial. Stick with MTV News for continued coverage, updates and analysis on MTVNews.com.

Sharp AQUOS SH-01D appears on NTT DoCoMo, offers up glasses-free 3D

Not content with brandishing a medley of LTE-packed smartphones this season, Japanese carrier NTT DoCoMo has confirmed a December release for Sharp's AQUOS SH-01D. An OMAP 4430 1GHz dual-core processor runs Gingerbread on the 3D-capable 1280 x 720 ASV display -- all crammed inside a waifish 9.7mm frame. Despite a recent visit to the FCC, there's no word on whether the water-defiant device will brave the Pacific ocean to arrive on these shores. However, any ex-patriots gasping for the SH-10D's potent screen will be able to grab one on December 2 and can unravel more specification mysteries in the Google-translated press release below.

Bellator 59: ?Pitbull? takes out Pellegrino, Dantas ends Vila?s run

Kurt Pellegrino has retired again. This time it wasn't as voluntary.

The UFC lightweight veteran took a fight with one of the young guns of MMA in Bellator and got waxed.

Patricky "Pitbull" Freire caught Pellegrino with a straight right that dropped him (2:28 mark). When they have someone in trouble, the Pitbull Brothers go for the kill. Patricky jumped on Pellegrino's back and trapped one his arms as he wailed away at the defenseless fighter. Referee Kevin McDonald stopped it, saving Pellegrino from unnecessary damage at the 0:36 mark of the first round.

Pellegrino, 32, retired from active fighting back in May, but couldn't resist the opportunity to fight in his home state when offered the shot with Bellator in Atlantic City, N.J. A native of Point Pleasant, N.J., Pellegrino was 7-5 in the UFC.

In one of the bigger bouts at Bellator 59, Alexis Vila fell short of completing his crazy journey to a tourney title at the age of 40. Vila lost a decision against Eduardo Dantas. Dantas won the Bellator bantamweight tourney and got himself a title shot against Zach Makovsky. Dantas, 22, also took out Ed West and Wilson Reis on his way to the tournament victory.

Motorola Droid 4, again, already? Yikes to all who recently purchased a Motorola Droid 3, but official specs on the Motorola Droid 4 have come to light. Droid-Life received a tip containing all the information about the device, and it seems like quite a spec machine.

The device features an 8MP camera on the back an HD camera on the front, and requires a special tool to remove the battery door? Just like we are unsure of how we feel abou the need for a special tool to pop the battery door off, we are also unsure of pricing and release time frame, but we can sure hope for soon! Mary J. Blige Dishes On Her 'Crazy' Led Zeppelin Covers

'I've listened to their music since I was a child,' says the R&B diva, who recorded 'Stairway to Heaven' and 'Whole Lotta Love.'
By James Montgomery, with reporting by Larry Carroll

Mary J. Blige
Photo: MTV News

You wouldn't peg Mary J Blige as the black-light-and-tapestry sort, but, as has become readily apparent in recent weeks, she absolutely loves Led Zeppelin.

In early February, reports began circulating that Blige had re-recorded Zeppelin's classic "Stairway to Heaven," working with Travis Barker, "American Idol" judge Randy Jackson and guitarist Steve Vai on the track, which is slated to appear on the international reissue of her Stronger With Each Tear album, due Monday.

But after she had recorded "Stairway," Blige continued to get the Led out, covering another Zeppelin classic — the thunderous "Whole Lotta Love" — for the album too. And when MTV News caught up with her on the Essence Black Women in Hollywood red carpet, she told us all about channeling her inner Robert Plant for the tracks, a process that came much easier than you'd probably imagine.

"I did Led Zeppelin's 'Stairway to Heaven' and 'Whole Lotta Love' — it's crazy," she said. "I am a Led Zeppelin fan. I'm not going to say I've been to their concerts, but I've listened to their music since I was a child, and it's always moved me, especially 'Stairway to Heaven,' and 'Whole Lotta Love' is just fun."

Blige also said she recorded another new song — a "club record" called "I Can't Wait" — for the re-release. And while it's only slated to hit shelves outside the U.S., she hopes her fans will get a chance to hear all the new songs pretty soon.

"I want y'all to hear it," she laughed.

What's really going on with the Galaxy Nexus volume bug

Android Central

By now if you've been following the European Galaxy Nexus launch, you'll be aware of the infamous volume bug that results in volume levels spiking all over the place when the phone (or something else nearby) is in 2G mode on a 900MHz network. This morning Google and Samsung confirmed that they're aware of the problem and have a software fix ready to go. However that hasn't stopped the cries from across the blogosphere (and beyond) that the root cause is a hardware fault, and that Google is papering over the cracks by fixing it with software. Some have even called for Samsung to issue a recall of all Nexuses sold over the past week.

Enter systems engineer, app developer and all-round voice of reason Lee Johnston (known here on AC as britishturbo). He posted the following explanation in our comments section, and again on his Google+ page. For us mere mortals, it does a great job of explaining what's really going on, why it's a common issue with complex electronic devices like cellphones, and why we don't need to worry.

I'm a Systems Engineer and also a Developer. I deal with things like this every day. What we have here is indeed a hardware issue, in that the radio interference is coming in through the radio hardware. However things like this can be fix fairly easily in software. It's called debounce.

When you monitor an electronic input like the buttons on a phone there is always noise and flutter even when you just press the button. If testing by Google has shown that they just need to turn up the debounce time (the time which an input must exceed for it to be determined to be a genuine press) then it will more than likely just work and no one will ever see it again.

Like I said I deal with this kind of thing every day, it's not a big deal as long as your debounce time is not excessive. But noise happens down on the order of 1 to 40 ms, real inputs when you press a button last from 100 or 200ms if you tap the button, up to seconds if you hold it down.

This is nothing like Apple and the iPhone 4 antennae problems that could not be fixed in software. I'm sure everyone will see in due time, the problem will be fixed, and the dust will blow over.

And people will be saying "wow, I was wrong, Google rocks!"

Over on Google+, Google engineer Dan Morrill reshared the post, saying Lee's post was "completely accurate" description of a "very common phenomenon", with the increase in debounce time being the "classic fix". So that's that.

Our own Jerry Hildenbrand had similar things to say when this first cropped up a few days ago -- it's impossible to completely protect a complex device like a smartphone from all RF interference, and some of it has to be managed with code. As such, something like the Nexus volume bug can absolutely be remedied with a software update, just as Lee Johnston explains above.
