Bristol Palin became an overnight Tea Party sweetheart when she was pitted against famous liberals like Margaret Cho on Dancing with the Stars. Judging from the number of votes she received, Bristol's fans seem to have forgiven her for scandalizing Sarah Palin's Vice-Presidential campaign with her unfortunately-timed pregnancy. And according to fellow contestant Cho, that was exactly the idea.
In a scandalous post on her blog, racy comedienne Cho claims that Sarah Palin forced Bristol to do the show for the sake of the Palins' public image. Cho says that she heard this directly from a source who "really should seriously know the dirt really really." Here's what Cho says she was told:
Sarah supposedly blames Bristol harshly and openly (in the circles that I heard it from) for not winning the election, and so she told Bristol she "owed" it to her to do DWTS so that "America would fall in love with her again" and make it possible for Sarah Palin to run in 2012 with America behind her all the way. Instead of being supposedly "handicapped" by the presence of her teen mom daughter, now Bristol is going to be an "asset"– a celebrity beloved for her dancing.
Wow -- could Sarah Palin really be that devious? We know she's all about using the mainstream media as an image booster (exhibit A: Sarah Palin's Alaska), but manipulating her own daughter? That would take it to a whole other level.
Of course, Cho isn't exactly an objective party here; she is very open about her political views being the polar opposite of Palin's. Still, Cho has spoken fondly of Bristol since the two of them first met. In the same blog post, Cho says that Bristol was "warm and incredibly supportive" during the show, and that she considers her a friend. She also writes that Bristol "looks beautiful out on the dance floor" and "improved a lot" during the competition (implying that she earned her controversial place in the final three). And lest we accuse her of being a conspiracy theorist, Cho says that she doesn't believe DWTS producers were aware of Sarah Palin's scheme.
It will be interesting to see how Sarah and Bristol Palin react to Cho's accusation. As for Cho herself, she jokes that she fears Godfather-style retaliation, writing, Now I am scared I am going to wake up with a decapitated moose head in my bed!
