2012 Assen MotoGP Saturday Round Up: Of Title Races, Lorenzo's Engines And Bridgestone Tires

There is a danger to thinking any championship is a foregone conclusion, especially this early in the season. Just as there is a danger to thinking that a race will pan out the way you thought it would after practice and qualifying. At Assen, everyone was afraid of three things: the weather, Jorge Lorenzo and Pol Espargaro. All three turned out differently than expected.

Best of all was the weather. After treacherous conditions on Friday, with rain falling, stopping, wetting the track just enough for Casey Stoner to bang himself up badly in the morning, though that did not stop him from blasting to pole, Saturday dawned bright and only got better: the big skies of flat-as-a-board Drenthe were mainly blue, with the occasional sighting of fluffy white clouds to provide a little cover and prevent egregious sunburn. But best of all, it stayed dry: no complications, just sunny, dry and calm weather.

Panasonic's Eluga V for NTT DoCoMo swings past the FCC

Panasonic Eluga V

Panasonic's Eluga V smartphone arrived at NTT DoCoMo back in May and now the company has dropped one of its handsets off at the FCC's underground bunker. The Ice Cream Sandwich-running phone has a 4.6-inch, 1280 x 720 display, wireless charging, the same water and dust proofing that we saw in its two brothers, HSPA, Bluetooth 3.0 and 802.11 b/g/n WiFi. Don't let the news of governmental approval get your hopes up for a stateside launch however, this one's just to ensure that tourists won't have the handset seized as soon as they reach customs.

ASUS' Cedar Trail-loaded EeeBox EB1030 nettop keeps your desk clean, thumbs green

We've seen a fair share of space-saving nettops pass through our very own crowded halls, so what's one more to add to the list? Especially when it's one being flaunted as the most eco-friendly, energy-efficient PC. That's exactly what ASUS thinks of its EeeBox EB1030, which aside from sporting a relatively minimalist design (as is usually the case with nettops), it's also boasting Intel's latest batch of Cedar Trail CPUs. To go along with those Atom processors (1.86GHz), ASUS is making this mini machine as configurable as it could get, giving users the option to load it with up to 4GB of RAM and a 500GB hard drive combined with 32GB of SSD goodness. Ports-wise the unit's pretty standard, offering options such as an HDMI, VGA, microphone, audio jack, card reader and four USB two-dot-ohs. Of course, the amount of cash you'll have to shell out will depend on the setup of choice, with pricing set to start at €296, or around $370 in American dollars.

Tom Cruise & Katie Holmes Are DUNZO! [UPDATE]

The day I knew, absolutely, would come has finally arrived. Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes have announced that they are divorcing. You may recall that TomKat got themselves hitched way back in 2006 in the wake of a very odd, very out of the blue courtship. In the almost 6 years that they’ve been married, [...]

2012 Assen MotoGP Friday Round Up: Of Tricky Surfaces, Fast Riders, And Career Choices

Assen's surface is pretty good when it's dry, and it's not too bad when it's wet, but this is 2012, and there's a MotoGP race this weekend, so of course, the conditions are as bad as they can possibly be. For Assen, that means a few spots of rain here and there, just enough to create patches damp enough to catch out the unwary, or even the wary, as Casey Stoner found out this morning. Heading down the Veenslang Stoner noticed the first spots of rain on his visor. Through the Ruskenhoek, it turned into drizzle, and he had already backed off into De Bult when he was flung from the bike in what he described as one of the worst crashes of his career. He took a knock to the head, banged his left shoulder and left wrist, and suffered a big and very painful contusion to his right knee, that left him hobbling around like an old man in the afternoon.

All Across America, Meat Billboards Ruled The Road

Although outdoor ads have been around since ancient Egypt, they really took off after the Interstate Highway System was born in the 1950s. And, what better way to entice the captive audience in the car than to advertise beef on a billboard?

TripAdvisor app for Windows Phone 7 now available

tripadvisor windows phone 7TripAdvisor, the popular travel planning tool, has just launched an app for Windows Phone 7. Just like the mobile website, the app allows you to search for anything travel-related -- from hotels and flights to restaurants and points-of-interest to visit once you reach your destination.

Geolocation is supported, which allows TripAdvisor to quickly locate places nearby. But while that's a neat feature, it's also a bit of a downer -- because, really, it's about the only feature TripAdvisor for WP7 brings to the table that its mobile Web app doesn't already offer (its browser-based geolocation doesn't work with WP7 at the moment).

While it's nice to see Windows Phone 7 users getting some big-name apps, it'd be even nicer if we saw some packing a bit more swagger.

Still, TripAdvisor for WP7 might just be worth installing on your device if you're frequently on the go -- at least until a better browser arrives with the Mango update.

Plex for Android Is Pretty - but Pixelated, Plodding and Painful to Use

Plex is a good looking media platform for running media files on Google TV, tablets, phones and so on. Online channels include Hulu, Vimeo and more. On looks and apparent tight integration between my existing Android-based devices, I decided to check out Plex's two Android apps. I was interested in particular in how well they integrate Android tablets and Google TV.

Dana White?s video blog shows Gray Maynard and Clay Guida?s war of words went on after the fight

Though Clay Guida and Gray Maynard fought for five rounds, their rivalry didn't end with the sound of the final horn. FX cameras showed them jawing as they walked out of the cage after Maynard was announced the winner on Friday night. Dana White's video blog caught their war of words continuing during post-fight medicals. Skip to the 8:30 mark, and as always, be prepared for salty language.

Something tells me this isn't the last time we'll see these two fight. Now that you've watched Guida and Maynard's jawing, go back to see these moments:

-- Though Guida is the "Carpenter," Frankie Edgar may now be the "Electrician." He was called in to turn on a television.

-- After getting his hands taped, Ramsey Nijem quips, "I guess I gotta fight now."

-- "I want to walk." After losing to Steven Siler, Joey Gambino was in no mood to get into a stretcher.

-- Cub Swanson's "Rocky" imitation is spot on.

You’ll begin hiking after a mere one-hour drive from Calgary. The path quickly lofts you above treeline, where constant scenery will pull you onward.
