Is Sonnen falling back in the contender line? Camp Silva is now a fan of Bisping

Is Sonnen falling back in the contender line? Camp Silva is now a fan of BispingThe jockeying continues between Chael Sonnen and Anderson Silva's camp. Will Sonnen's WWE-style call-out be rewarded or will Silva's manager Ed Soares successfully lobby UFC management that the brash American shouldn't be next?

Last week, Soares told HDNet's "Inside MMA" that Sonnen needs to go to the back of the line of middleweight contenders before he gets another title shot. Who's in that line?

Soares said he's never thought much of Michael Bisping in the past, but now the Brit should be in the mix for a title shot.

[...] People talk about Chael and Brian Stann, and sometimes people are focused on the TUF show. But I think Bisping could be a good opportunity. GSP could be a good opportunity," Soares told Sherdog.com.

That doesn't mean Soares is against Silva facing Sonnen.

"There's a lot of great opportunities, and I do think the Chael fight could potentially sell. It could be a big seller. I think it could be a huge pay-per-view. So I see all angles of it, but I'm just expressing what Anderson has talked to me about. That's how he feels."

Sonnen says all of this is irrelevant. He believes Silva is ducking him, but pointed out to Jim Rome that it's not the champ or his manager who make the fights.

"Whether he wants to do it or not, we're gonna do it. Dana will make him ... Anderson doesn't pick the fights and his manager, that keeps getting air time, darn sure doesn't have anything to do with it," Sonnen said (9:45 mark). "Dana White will decide, and if Dana says yes, then we're fighting and if Dana says no, then we're not. That's end of it. I don't argue with Dana. I don't need Anderson's opinion, I'll slap him in the face the next time I see him."

Does Bisping deserve a shot? He's certainly going to get some steam building as Season 14 of "The Ultimate Fighter" unfolds. The problem is timing.

Can the UFC wait until early December to schedule the next Silva fight? Bisping and fellow coach Jason Miller meet at the TUF 14 Finale on Dec. 3 in Las Vegas.

On November 1, Justin Bieber will take his fans Under the Mistletoe on his holiday album. But he's giving them an early treat by releasing his Usher duet, "The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire)," on Monday (October 24).

The song dropped on Ryan Seacrest's radio show. Its vibe is reminiscent of '90s R&B tracks, and it sounds a lot like it could have been recorded by Boyz II Men, who also appear on the album.

The Christmas classic is all about the little joys of the holiday season, including the family get-togethers, the food and Santa bringing presents to children. The song, one of the classics that appears on the album, hits iTunes on Monday. Bieber and Usher previously appeared together on "Somebody to Love" off My World 2.0.

"Justin and I did the classic record 'Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire.' This record is going to be remembered for years to come," Usher told Seacrest on Monday morning. "It's a record that has always been one of my favorites, and I'm happy that I was able to share it with Justin, and for us to put it out. The album is full of surprises. Justin's Under the Mistletoe is going to be incredible!"

In the lead-up to the release, Bieber released some behind-the-scenes footage of his mentor and him in the studio working on the song. He also shared that he had another surprise in store for his fans. Just one week after dropping the video for "Mistletoe," he tweeted, "Up early to shoot another video for #UNDERTHEMISTLETOE #Nov1st but something else is out this morning...."

In addition to Usher, Under the Mistletoe will also feature appearances from the Band Perry, Busta Rhymes, Boyz II Men and Mariah Carey, who re-recorded her classic "All I Want for Christmas" for the album.

Democratic Women Vow a Comeback

Eleanor Clift, The Daily Beast
Once dubbed the Year of the Woman, 2010 saw a record number of Republican women seeking elective office. But the number of them in Congress from both parties declined for the first time in 30 years, because so many Democrats—many of them women—were swept out of office. Only one member of the freshman class of Democratic women survived the Republican wave: Maine Rep. Chellie Pingree, former head of Common Cause. Her seven female colleagues were defeated after a single term.

Banshee music player now works in Windows, supports Amazon MP3 downloads

A few moments ago, version 2 of the Banshee music player for Linux was released, bringing with it a whole slew of new features, and the addition of an official -- but alpha-quality -- Windows build. The Mac OS X build of version 2 is due later today.

The most notable new feature is support for the Amazon MP3 store -- you can buy and download music from within Banshee -- but unfortunately it's only available in the Linux build at the moment (OS X and Windows support are planned, however). There have also been some significant improvements to artist, album, and queue interactions -- and yes, you can finally right click a track, album or artist and select 'play after' to insert it into the queue.

Beyond actual playback, the user interface has been tidied up -- it now looks a whole lot smarter -- and the Ubuntu One Music Store and SoundMenu extensions have been made official. For a complete list of changes, additions and bug fixes, check the change log.

When Windows support initially appeared in February, we found it rough around the edges and fraught with stability issues. With version 2, Banshee for Windows is still a bit unstable, but it's shaping up to be a good alternative to Winamp, iTunes, or whatever other music library manager you use. It's almost as attractive as its GNOMEish brother, too!

Ford's Driver Alert System keeps you in the right lane, recommends java on occasion

It ain't the first automaker to do so, but Ford's taking a step in the 'stay in your own lane!' direction with a new technology package for the Explorer. The Driver Alert System is slated to launch in early 2012, and it'll tout new lane keeping technologies, including a system that can help detect drowsy drivers. The goal here is to keep sleepyheads from destroying lives -- be it their own or others -- by suggesting that they pull over, rest and have a sip of coffee if they've been cruising along for an extended period of time. Furthermore, a camera setup will monitor one's lane position, and if they drift too far away from the straight and narrow, their steering wheel will vibrate. It all sounds good and well, but the fact that a AAA survey found that over 40 percent of Americans have "fallen asleep or nodded off while driving" makes 'staying at home' seem like the sensible choice.

Beyonce's 'Countdown' Dancing 'Surprised' Original Choreographer

Anne Teresa de Keersmaeker is not 'angry or honored' by similarities to her '80s and '90s dances.
By Gil Kaufman

Beyoncé in her video for "Countdown"
Photo: Columbia

Imitation may be the sincerest form of flattery, but Belgian choreographer Anne Teresa de Keersmaeker is not flattered — nor angry — about claims that Beyoncé's "Countdown" video pays unattributed homage to one of her clips.

"Like so many people, I was extremely surprised when I got a message through Facebook about the special appearance of my two choreographies — 'Rosas danst Rosas' (1983) and 'Achterland' (1990) — in Beyoncé's new videoclip 'Countdown,' " De Keersmaeker wrote in a statement on the Performance Club website on Monday.

Not long after the clip for B's latest debuted, a number of websites pointed out the similarities between De Keersmaeker's work and the steps in Beyoncé's video. Before those side-by-side comparisons started popping up, the video's director, Adria Petty, told MTV News it was an homage to such icons as Audrey Hepburn and the Supremes, as well as classic films such as "West Side Story" and "Funny Face."

In it, Beyoncé not only shows her signature personality and spirit but also her emerging baby bump, and Petty said she presented the singer with a number of classic references, including some German modern-dance clips.

"Obviously," De Keersmaeker continued, "Beyoncé, or the video clip director Adria Petty, plundered many bits of the integral scenes in the film ... People asked me if I'm angry or honored. Neither. [O]n the one hand, I am glad that 'Rosas danst Rosas' can perhaps reach a mass audience, which such a dance performance could never achieve, despite its popularity in the dance world since [the] 1980s. And Beyoncé is not the worst copycat, she sings and dances very well, and she has a good taste! On the other hand, there are protocols and consequences to such actions, and I can't imagine she and her team are not aware of it."

Among the scenes juxtaposed in a popular online mash-up is one in which B is filmed through a window as her similarly dressed dancers cavort in the background, tugging on her shirt and hair in a fashion that is nearly identical to De Keersmaeker, who also sports a similar chopped-bangs look.

De Keersmaeker stressed that she's not angry over the alleged appropriation, but she did wonder why it has taken mainstream pop culture 30 years to recognize her experimental dance work. "A few months ago, I saw on Youtube a clip where schoolgirls in Flanders are dancing 'Rosas danst Rosas' to the music of 'Like a Virgin' by Madonna," she continued. "What does it say about the work of 'Rosas danst Rosas'? In the 1980s, this was seen as a statement of girl power, based on assuming a feminine stance on sexual expression. I was often asked then if it was feminist. Now that I see Beyoncé dancing it, I find it pleasant but I don't see any edge to it. It's seductive in an entertaining consumerist way."

A spokesperson for Beyoncé could not be reached for comment at press time. But according to The New York Times, in a statement Beyoncé explained, "Clearly, the ballet 'Rosas danst Rosas' was one of many references for my video 'Countdown.' It was one of the inspirations used to bring the feel and look of the song to life ... I was also paying tribute to the film 'Funny Face' with the legendary Audrey Hepburn ... My biggest inspirations were the '60s, the '70s, Brigitte Bardot, Andy Warhol, Twiggy and Diana Ross ... I've always been fascinated by the way contemporary art uses different elements and references to produce something unique."

Earlier this year at the Billboard Music Awards, Beyoncé was also accused of mimicking the choreography of a dance by Italian pop singer Lorella Cuccarini. Knowles later acknowledged being inspired by Cuccarini.

De Keersmaeker noted one other, more subtle similarity between her work and Beyoncé's, one that may not be obvious to the casual side-by-side Web observer. While Beyoncé is around four months pregnant in her clip, De Keersmaeker said when she filmed her 1996 film, she was also pregnant, with her second child. "So, today, I can only wish her the same joy that my daughter brought me," she wrote.

Colin Edwards Updates Fans On Facebook Page: Dislocated Shoulder And Suspected Broken Heels

Amidst the outpouring of grief at the death of Marco Simoncelli, there was also concern at the fate of Colin Edwards and Valentino Rossi. Edwards and Rossi had been following right behind Simoncelli when the Italian lost control of his Honda and then careened in front of them, giving neither man any chance to avoid the collision that would prove fatal to Simoncelli. Edwards suffered a dislocated shoulder in the crash, and was flown home to Texas to receive further treatment for the injury.

After the crash, there were many questions about the mental state of Edwards and Rossi. Rossi's manager Davide Brivio was quick to deny rumors Rossi was considering retiring, and Colin Edwards posted an update to his fans on his Facebook page, assuring them that he was feeling mentally strong, if a little physically beat up. Edwards stated he may have fractured his wrists and heel in the accident, in addition to dislocating the shoulder, but he added he was "holding up OK mentally."

Below is the text posted on Edwards' Facebook page:

AVG launches LiveKive cloud sync and backup tool

avg livekive dropbox
A while back, we told you about AVG's new LiveKive service, a new cloud synchronization and backup tool which appears to have been named after a vat in which mash is made during the brewing process. But enough about AVG's odd choice of monikers -- LiveKive has launched and is now ready to accept your files into the AVG cloud.

LiveKive takes aim at services like Dropbox and SugarSync, though at the moment it's lagging behind in terms of features. As it stands, LiveKive is only compatible with Windows and OS X. There are no mobile clients yet, though with AVG's strong presence on Android we wouldn't be surprised to see an app arrive in the near future.

The company is offering a heck of a deal right now, however. If you sign up for a paid account during the launch phase, you can score unlimited storage for $80 for a whole year. You can't even score 50GB per year at that price from Dropbox, so if cost and space are more important to you than cross-platform availability, LiveKive might be worth checking out.

If you're not interested in ponying up any cash at the moment, you can still get a 5GB account free of charge. Just head on over, and create a LiveKive account.
